happy birthday burnsie!

shortbready biscuits of deliciousness
Today was my granny's 90th birthday. 90! I made her some tasty little biscuits, sort of like shortbread but not quite. No presents this year, at her age there's not much that she hasn't got and with a veritable army of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her own kids tasty treats are always a winner. Luckily I didn't buy any flowers as she had so many they were being given away due to lack of vases (and room!). She hasn't been very well these past few months so it was great to see her looking really well and being on such top form - go Burnsie!

mini hexagons thanks to bunny mummy

Last night I came across the mini hexagon tutorial over on bunny mummy. Alas, a new addiction! They're so quick and easy to make, I have around 20 that I made whilst watching a film last night (I love multi-tasking, don't you?). I have no idea what I'll make with them, I think I might just keep at it and when I have a big box full make decide? I could make a wrap for my mum... who knows! The hexagon that looks lilac in that photo is actually a taupe colour, the light in my house is a bit iffy these days.

charring some aubergines for tasty aubergine dinner
I made what in our house is imaginatively referred to as 'aubergine dinner' last night (we have many names like this such as 'bed juice' = juice that you bring up to bed) which is fairly labour intensive but well worth it. I love the smell of charred aubergine, sort of sweet. For anyone who's interested, I think this dish is actually called aubergine parmigiana in its original state. I've never followed a recipe though, I think I saw it once and then made up a version for myself. Meals are always that much more interesting when there's a bit of pot luck involved, don't you think?!
